Basic Supply List

Wyanne will be demo a wide variety of supplies to show you differences and what is available. She suggests you wait and purchase what truly interests you and see what you might already have on hand that you can use.

Basic Supplies Suggested to get Started

1. Raw Canvas from Dick Blick. com is suggested. But other raw canvas from an art store will work. Please note that raw canvas from fabric stores might have textile coatings making painting difficult.

For the 1st week if you have never worked with raw canvas I suggest that you get a yard or two of Dick Blick's Lightweight, Medium Texture – With a weight of 9.5 oz and a medium texture, Type CD-50 Canvas is an excellent choice for students and an economical choice for all painters on a budget.  We will be doing test paintings just to learn how the paint responds.

A good raw canvas for regular paintings is Dick Blicks Medium Weight, Medium-Smooth Texture – A versatile option for all types of painting, from landscape to portrait, this medium-smooth, double-weave canvas has an unprimed weight of 12 oz.  This is a good all around canvas.

2. Acrylic Paint - Fluid acrylics work best.  These can be artist quality like Golden High Flow or Fluid Acrylics, Craft Paint or House paint.

3. Flow Aids (you only need one):  Different brands are listed, but you only need one bottle of whatever brand is available in your area. They are all the same basically.  One little bottle goes a long way.

Liquitex Flow Aid Additive
Golden Wetting Agent
Winsor Newton Galleria Flow Improver
Winsor Newton Flow Improver

4. Spray Bottle (best if it has measurements on the side)  If not, you can use measuring spoons and cups.

5. A 2nd Spray Bottle for just water.
